Texans shuffle front office on Friday

HOUSTON – The Houston Texans have promoted Brian Gaine to director of player personnel and Jon Carr to director of college scouting, General Manager and Executive Vice President of Football Operations Rick Smith announced today.

Gaine joined the Texans in February 2014 as the director of pro personnel following a five-year tenure with the Miami Dolphins' player personnel department, last serving as assistant general manager from 2012-13. As the director of player personnel, Gaine will work with Smith on all player personnel evaluations and continue to lead all pro scouting department operations, which include all pro player evaluation, the advance scouting process, free agency and the monitoring of player transactional movement in all professional leagues.

Gaine, who will be entering his 17th season in the NFL in 2015, has also worked in the scouting department for the Dallas Cowboys (2005-07) and New York Jets (1999-04), rising to assistant director of pro scouting with both organizations. The former University of Maine tight end played on the practice squad for the Jets and New York Giants prior to embarking on his career in player personnel.

Carr, who is replacing Mike Maccagnan as the Texans director of college scouting, has served as a national college scout for the Texans the past three seasons and will enter his ninth year with the organization in 2015. As director of college scouting, Carr will coordinate all of the Texans' college scouting efforts and will also be involved with evaluating NFL teams and prospects in preparation for roster reductions during training camp and NFL free agency.

Carr originally joined the Texans as a college scout in 2007 and was promoted to national scout in 2012. He enjoyed several stints coaching in the collegiate ranks, beginning with five seasons at Tennessee State (1997-01) before moving to Eastern Illinois (2003-04) and Toledo (2005-06). Carr played collegiately at Southeast Missouri State from 1987-89 before transferring to Purdue, where he earned his degree in law and society in 1991.

The Texans have also hired Matt Jansen as college scouting coordinator. Jansen, a Texas Tech graduate, worked as a defensive assistant while in college. He interned in the Texans scouting department from 2011-13 before joining the Baltimore Ravens as a player personnel assistant from 2013-14.
