Texans sign Babin

HOUSTON- The Houston Texans announce the signing of first-round draft pick linebacker Jason Babin. With the signing, Babin becomes the first first-rounder from the 2004 NFL Draft to sign.

Babin (6-2, 259) is the career sacks leader at Western Michigan with 38. In 2003, Babin totaled 15 sacks, a career-high 115 tackles and made 33 stops behind the line of scrimmage.

A Paw Paw, Michigan native, Babin is the highest Western Michigan Bronco selected in school history and was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year in 2003.

The college defensive end was draft by the Texans with the 27th pick in the first round. He will move to outside linebacker in the Texans 3-4 defense.

The Texans have now signed four of their nine draft picks. Babin joins FS Jammal Lord (175th selection) of Nebraska, LB Raheem Orr (210th selection) of Rutgers and WR Sloan Thomas (211th selection) from Texas.
