Texans sign Moreno


HOUSTON - The Houston Texans announced today that they have signed unrestricted free agent LB Zeke Moreno, free agent P Curtis Ansel and rookie free agent OT Myniya Smith.

Moreno (6-2, 235) played in 57 games, starting 15 during his four seasons with the San Diego Chargers. Drafted by the Chargers in the fifth round of the 2001 draft from Southern California, Moreno has 141 total tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries during his career.

Moreno's best season was 2003 when he started 12 games totaling 78 tackles, two sacks and two fumble recoveries. He played in nine games in 2004 before being sidelines with a shoulder injury that landed him on the Reserve/Injured list (11/15/04).

Ansel (6-0, 210) originally signed with Detroit as an undrafted rookie free agent. He was released after training camp (8/23/04). Ansel played collegiate football at Kansas where he recorded 154 career punts for 6,344 yards (41.2 avg.) and set the Big 12 record for the longest punt (83 yards at Baylor).

Smith (6-6, 343) participated as a rookie free agent tryout. He signs with the Texans out of Southern University where he started 10 games for the Jaguars and was voted first-team All-SWAC.
