The Texans have signed quarterback Quinn Gray, the team announced today.

Gray (6-3, 253) is entering his sixth season in the NFL after spending the previous four with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played in a career-high eight games this past season, starting four. Gray finished the season at 2-2 as a starter. All of his starts came on the road.

"Coach (Gary) Kubiak and coach (Kyle) Shanahan sold me (on the Texans)," Gray said in an interview with HoustonTexans.com. "It's a very young team. They are starting to win games here, and I just wanted to be a part of it. Hopefully, I can bring a winning attitude that this team already has and, hopefully, I can just add to it. I'm just glad to be a Texan."

The former Florida A&M Rattler was signed as an undrafted free agent before the 2002 season. In 2007, Gray set career highs in passing yards (986), attempts (144), completions (80), passer rating (85.6) and touchdowns (10).

Gray's starts last season helped guide the Jaguars into the playoffs. He led Jacksonville to wins over playoff-bound Tampa Bay and Tennessee. He threw for a career-high 354 yards against New Orleans and tied a Jaguars team record for touchdowns in a game with four against Houston in the season finale. His 302 passing yards against the Texans were the second-highest total in his career and his 122.0 passer rating was the highest in his career.

"There is an opportunity for a quarterback in this system to have a lot of success," Gray said. "Matt's (Schaub) has had a lot of success since he's been here. It's just appealing when a quarterback sees that kind of stuff – to want to be a part of it.

"It's an opportunity for me to come in and compete and play some good football, and that's all that I can ask for. Other than that, you can't ask for anything more."

Gray has appeared in 11 career games. He has passed for 1,252 yards with 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. He has rushed for 84 yards including two rushing touchdowns.
