The Texans took a 21-17 lead in Los Angeles on a scoring drive that started with a key takeaway by the defense.
With 3:52 remaining in the third quarter, Whitney Mercilus sacked Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers and forced a fumble, recovered by inside linebacker Zach Cunningham. Deshaun Watson and the offense took over at the Houston 27-yard line and orchestrated a six-play, 73-yard scoring drive. Watson completed passes to DeAndre Hopkins on back-to-back plays, for seven yards and a big 34-yard catch-and-run to move the Texans to the Chargers 15-yard line.
Watson attempted two passes to Jordan Akins. After the first attempt was incomplete, Watson successfully completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to the second-year tight end.
Following the score, the Texans took their first lead of the day against the Chargers.
