Texans to air final preseason game on KNWS

HOUSTON - The Houston Texans and their official television partner, KTRK ABC 13 have reached an agreement with KNWS (Channel 51) to air the team's final preseason game versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, September 2, 2004 at 7 p.m. CT. The Texans and ABC 13 sought an alternative television outlet for the game in order to avoid a potential conflict with ABC's anticipated coverage of the Republican National Convention.

"We want to provide the community with appropriate news coverage of the Republican National Convention and also provide Houston Texans fans with the preseason game in its entirety," Henry Florsheim, president and general manager of ABC 13, said. "This relationship with KNWS allows us to achieve both objectives to the benefit of all Houstonians."

ABC 13 will carry all other 2004 preseason game broadcasts live, as well as Houston Texans shows and specials during the preseason and throughout the year. On Thursday, September 2, ABC 13 will feature pre-game and post-game coverage of the Houston Texans game versus the Buccaneers and will replay the game broadcast. KNWS will carry the game on a live basis and will also have a pre-game and post-game show on September 2.

"ABC 13 has been a great partner of the Houston Texans and the home of our preseason television games since our inaugural season," Senior Vice President of the Houston Texans Jamey Rootes said. "We look forward to continuing our relationship with KTRK for many years to come, but we are fortunate this year that an experienced leader in Houston sports television like KNWS was able to step up and provide our fans with access to our fourth and final preseason game of 2004."

"More and more, Houstonians turn to KNWS for local sports," KNWS General Manager Jack Dabbah said. "We appreciate the opportunity to serve Houston's sports fans and look forward to bringing this Texans football game to them."
