WR Nate Washington signs with Texans

The Houston Texans have signed unrestricted free agent WR Nate Washington, it was announced today. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Washington(6-1, 183), started 11-of-16 games with the Tennessee Titans last season and ranked third on the team with 40 receptions and 647 receiving yards. The 11-year veteran also registered two receiving touchdowns, including a career-long 80-yard score vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11. Washington's best game of the season was in Week 15 vs. the New York Jets, where he had a season-high six receptions for 102 yards.

Washington was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2005 and spent four years in Pittsburgh and won two Super Bowls (2005 and 2008). Washington signed with the Titans as an unrestricted free agent in 2009 and no Titans player had more receptions (267), receiving yards (3,944) and receiving touchdowns (26) from 2009-13. Washington enjoyed his greatest statistical success in 2011, when he posted career-highs with 74 receptions for 1,023 yards and seven touchdowns.

The 31-year-old Washington attended Tiffin University, where he holds eight individual receiving records, including the record for receptions in a game (13), yards in a game (299), receptions in a season (70), yards in a season (1,428), touchdowns in a season (16), receptions in a career (212), yards in a career (4,214), and touchdown receptions (47). As a senior, Washington compiled 1,428 yards receiving and 69 receptions over 11 games.

During his NFL career, Washington has totaled 411 receptions for 6,296 receiving yards and 40 touchdowns. He ranks third among all active undrafted NFL players in career receptions and receiving yards, trailing only Wes Welker and Antonio Gates. He also has recorded nine consecutive seasons playing all 16 games and his current streak of 144 consecutive games played ranks first among NFL wide receivers.
