Tickets on sale for Battle of the Piney Woods

HOUSTON – Tickets for the 2011 Battle of the Piney Woods presented by YP.com went on sale to the general public today, Lone Star Sports & Entertainment officials announced.  The Battle of the Piney Woods is the annual rivalry matchup between Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State.  This year's edition will be played on Saturday, October 8 at 2:00 p.m. CT.

Tickets range in price from $15-35 and are available online at www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 832-667-2390 or through the athletic ticket offices at Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State.  Only the lower seating bowl at Reliant Stadium, along with select luxury suites, will be opened for the game, creating a capacity of approximately 26,000.

Stephen F. Austin defeated Sam Houston State 31-28 last season before a crowd of 24,685 fans at Reliant Stadium. The crowd was the largest in the 85-year history of the rivalry and was the largest against a Football Championship Subdivision institution in both schools' histories.

The Battle of the Piney Woods dates back to 1923, making it the second oldest college football rivalry in the state of Texas. Sam Houston State holds a 48-35-2 edge in the series, although Stephen F. Austin has won the last two meetings.  The teams moved the annual game to Houston's Reliant Stadium in 2010 in a partnership with Lone Star Sports & Entertainment.
