The Texans 2019 Awards: Best Regular Season Win

With the 2020 Oscars set for Sunday, we have unveiled our nominees for our favorite moments in 2019. Instead of Best Actor, Best Picture and Best Director, we've come up with our own categories. Today, we pick the final award of the week (cue the music)…

BEST REGULAR SEASON WIN OF 2019

John Harris, Texans Analyst and Sideline Reporter
Nomination: Week 14 vs. New England

There are a few here, but driving home on a Sunday night (early Monday morning, really) with a win over the Patriots in the back pocket was as good a feeling as I've had during the regular season. I started my sideline reporting career in 2014 and had seen up close losses in 2015, twice in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Five straight to those guys. But, FINALLY, the Texans got over the hump in fantastic fashion, soundly beating the Patriots on Sunday night primetime television. The win over the Chiefs is a VERY close second, followed by the Thursday night win over the Colts. But, in the end, that feeling of a win over the Patriots was so sweet.

Drew Dougherty, Texans TV Host
Nomination: Week 6 at Kansas City

The Texans beat the eventual Super Bowl champions in their own stadium.

A road victory at Kansas City in Week 6 saw the Texans come back from a 14-point first quarter deficit. They held the ball for 39:48, an Arrowhead Stadium record. Houston did so with a handful of key players watching from the sideline because of injury. It was a 31-24 thriller that saw Deshaun Watson find DeAndre Hopkins for a gain of eight on 4th-and-3 with under two minutes in regulation.

Deepi Sidhu, Texans Insider and Lead Writer
Nomination: Week 15 at Tennessee

In Week 15, the Texans put a stop to the Tennessee Titans four-game winning streak with a big 24-21 win on the road and pulled away from the division rival with sole possession of the AFC South.

Whitney Mercilus' early interception turned a first-and-goal for the Titans into Watson touchdown just a few plays later for a 14-point swing. Angelo Blackson blocked a field goal, DeAndre Hopkins exploded for 119 yards receiving on six catches, Kenny Stills scored a touchdown on two of his three receptions and Carlos Hyde rushed for 104 yards. It was as complete team win and gave the Texans control of their destiny as they made their playoff push.

Marc Vandermeer, Voice of the Houston Texans
Nomination: Week 16 at Tampa Bay

You might think going on the road to beat Tampa Bay wouldn't be it but, because some of the other good ones are taken and for the following reasons, this is my vote. This was against a hot team that had won four straight. The Texans were on the road for the second consecutive week and had Tennessee coming up again the following Sunday. The last thing they wanted was for a winner take all for the division at home. They took care of business with four picks and clinched the AFC South, enabling them to rest many players in Week 17.
