These two teams last met on Thanksgiving Day of 2020, as Houston cruised to a 41-25 victory at Ford Field. It was the fourth straight Texans victory against the Lions, and Houston is 4-1 all-time versus Detroit.

Last year, the Lions won the NFC North with a 12-5 record, and they fell to the 49ers in the NFC Championship game, 34-31.

Native Texan Dan Campbell enters his fourth season as Detroit's head coach, and combined with his interim head coaching stint in 2015 with Miami, he has a lifetime mark of 29-33-1.

The Lions went 3-12-1 and finished fourth in the AFC North last season.

Head coach Matt Patricia enters year three with Detroit, and has a 9-22-1 record in his first two seasons.

This will be the second Thanksgiving Day contest with the Lions, as Houston came back to win, 34-31, in overtime in 2012. In 2004, Detroit won the very first meeting between the two franchises. The Lions lost the next three. The last game between the Texans and Lions was a 20-13 win by Houston at NRG Stadium in 2016.
